Lyse Doucet & Patrick Cockburn: War and Propaganda

In retrospect, the conflict in Syria looks like a dress rehearsal for the current Russian war on Ukraine. Both conflicts tested whole new propaganda weapons and strategies, many of them existing in high-definition and on new media. How do war-zone journalists get to the truth amid the fog of contemporary “dis-information” on all sides?

Lyse Doucet is the BBC’s Chief International Correspondent and has reported extensively from Ukraine, as well as Syria and Afghanistan. Patrick Cockburn is a veteran war correspondent, whose books include The Age of Jihad, The Occupation: War and Resistance in Iraq, and War in the Age of Trump.

This informative talk will be chaired by our very own James Harkin, Director, Centre for Investigative Journalism and author of Hunting Season.
