Product description

This book has been published at the end of several years of research into the city's history, made possible by two generous grants from the Heritage Lottery Fund. The first project looked at the city's history up to 1600 and the second period of research completed the picture by investigating the city from 1600 onwards. The book is based on recent research by Dr Sheila Sweetinburgh and Dr Doreen Rosman with assistance from community volunteers and draws on research from historians from the Department of History and American Studies at Canterbury Christ Church University.

"Enormous fun to read - an intriguing and exciting history, packed with stories, action and colourful characters" - Jenny Uglow
